MDRT (Million Dollar Round Table) members are part of a global network of financial advisors committed to professional excellence. More than that, though, they’re able to make a meaningful impact in their communities as well as in the world. One way they extend that impact is by endorsing a charity for funding through the MDRT Foundation. Many MDRT members find that endorsing a charity through the MDRT Foundation is one of the most rewarding parts of their membership.
Giving back where she found safety and a voice
At age 2, Laura Mossakowski, CFP, who is now a 20-year MDRT member and Top of the Table member, entered Encompass Early Education and Care after her mother moved the family to Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA, to escape an abusive home. Encompass provided them with full-time care, nourishment and emotional support. Within just a few months, Mossakowski — who as a toddler hadn’t spoken a word — was talking in full sentences.
Inspired by the life-changing support she received, Mossakowski began volunteering at Encompass at age 10. As an adult, she joined the board and served as president from 2017 to 2020, helping lead major fundraising efforts and expand the organization’s reach. Because she’s an MDRT member, Mossakowski was able to sponsor an MDRT Foundation Global Grant to help Encompass grow its weekend food packs program, which provides nutritious meals to children who might otherwise go hungry over the weekend. In honor of Mossakowski’s volunteerism, Encompass received the highest grant award available of $50,000. Today, Encompass serves more than 1,200 children across seven centers, with an eighth opening soon — proof that one act of care can ripple across generations.
How does the MDRT Foundation Global Grants Program work?
1. For the MDRT member: Support a cause
MDRT members select a charity that’s meaningful to them and write a letter of endorsement. That endorsement can be the catalyst that expands a nonprofit’s reach and deepens its impact.
2. For the endorsed charity: Apply online
The MDRT member-endorsed charity completes an online application on the MDRT Foundation’s website, which is available in nine languages. Every year, the online application portal is open for charities to access from May 1 to September 1. Grant awards range from $1,000 to $50,000. The charity will request an amount based on the project they are asking to be funded. The MDRT Foundation has granted over $44.5 million to charities in more than 70 countries. When MDRT members endorse a charity, they’re not just offering financial support; they’re connecting that organization to a global network of professionals who care. This visibility can open doors to new partnerships, volunteers and long-term sustainability.
