The building blocks of achievement

The word “never” doesn’t really exist for me. There’s always some way to do something and get the clients you’re seeking.

Believe it will happen. You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. From that standpoint, you may not get 100% of the result you wanted, but you’ll do better than doing nothing. Doing nothing is very easy to do. I don’t believe in doing that though. I believe in working to accomplish your goals. The money is secondary.

If you believe you can do it, the odds will fall in your favor. You have to work at it every day though. You can’t just have one or two appointments a week, which I’m afraid some people have. You must push yourself.

And when you’re part of MDRT, look and see who is doing better than you — there will always be somebody — and watch that person. Follow that person’s pattern, and make it part of what you do. Surround yourself with people who are strong in your weaknesses. You’ll have a much better life if you’re in that position to do that.

I owe my business career to MDRT, from the people I met to the Annual Meeting speakers. They molded me. I had role model after role model in MDRT.

Also, the international concept of MDRT is so important because you realize that everyone has the same problems in every country in the world. In this business, we all have to find people who are willing to listen to us and hone the skills needed to educate them about the products we’re presenting. It’s international. It may be said in many different languages, but the concepts and the products are essentially the same.

What MDRT has done is educate the world about providing more financial protection for more people everywhere. It’s fabulous.

Ron Barbaro was a 61-year MDRT member and the 1985 MDRT President. He passed away August 10, 2025. This blog post was excerpted from a 2015 interview, which you can see more of in the video, “Tips for success.
