The call I’ll never forget

Scott Sorrell

Around November 2013, a client named Lew called now-13-year MDRT member Scott Sorrell, CLU, ChFC. He wanted to double-check his beneficiaries because he had a terminal illness and fewer than three months to live. “’I want to thank you for everything you’ve done for me,’” Sorrell recalled his client telling him. “That was pretty empowering.”

Lew passed away in February 2014, and Sorrell still thinks of that call when working with families experiencing difficult times. “While we can never replace the person, the implementation of life insurance allowed Lew’s family to not have financial concerns during a very difficult time,” he said.

Sorrell has now dealt with many more death claims and always wants to make sure clients know how seriously he takes his profession. “It allows me to tell them this is a life passion for me. This is not a job; it’s a career,” he said. “I have no interest in doing anything else professionally as long as I’m living.”

Similar case I dealt with. I convinced and sold three policies to one of the Pujaris in a temple who earned very meagre salary. Unfortunately he was shot in 2018 by some enemies and his family was deprived of bread and butter. When I initiated claim on his policies his wife got a claim of IR 80,00,000 and they were in comfortable financial position. We Advisers cannot replace sentimental value but can certainly help the family with claim of financial support to keep family independent.
