Creating client advocates and more referrals

You can develop more loyal clients who advocate for you as a financial advisor when you deliver exceptional service that prioritizes clients and fosters trusting relationships.

The following was excerpted from the MDRT on-demand course, Delivering exceptional client experiences. In this course, you’ll learn effective communication techniques, educational methods and tips for personalizing the client experience to create memorable “wow” moments. Additionally, you will discover how to effectively handle challenging situations and address dissatisfied clients.

Ethics
The foundation of exceptional service is built on following ethical practices. MDRT members align their practices to reflect MDRT’s standards, including practicing the seven tenets of the MDRT Code of Ethics.

Furthermore, exceptional service demonstrates respect and builds rapport. This — as well as clear communication — allows the relationship between the client and the advisor to thrive, which leads to retention and referral generation.

Tip: Share with clients how you apply your ethics and values in your business. This could include how you continue to improve through education and always put clients’ interests first.

Respect
As a financial advisor, it’s important to show clients respect when discussing their wants and needs. Respect forms the foundation for all other components of an exceptional client experience.

Tip: Tell your clients they matter. Everyone enjoys hearing how much they matter to others, and this sense of attachment makes people feel attuned to each other.

Communication
Communicating openly and directly with clients is crucial. Communication allows transparency, which fosters trust and ensures that everyone is on the same page.

Tip: Clearly outline your fee structures, including any additional costs that may arise, so there are no surprises. Also, specify the services you provide versus those you do not.

You can go more in-depth with this topic and many more with the MDRT member-exclusive new education modules.
