Everyone has days when they feel down. It can be the weather, world events or something else that makes you want to stay in bed and pull the covers over your head. When your motivation is lacking, here are a few ways to get moving again.
- Phone a friend. Professional conferences have helped you build relationships with advisors from around the country — or the world. Call one and ask what they are working on.
- Use the news as an opportunity. Think about a major story involving interest rates, inflation or the economy. Consider how it affects your clients, and reach out with guidance. They will appreciate hearing from you first.
- Learn about new products. Companies introduce products to address unmet needs. Review new offerings, and identify clients who may benefit from them. Reach out and start a conversation.
- Talk about a client’s favorite stock. Many clients follow a particular company closely. If your firm permits it, discuss recent developments and whether the news affects their strategy.
- Schedule portfolio reviews. It’s the final quarter of the year. If you conduct quarterly or yearly reviews, start putting them on the calendar. Planning for upcoming meetings can provide focus and purpose.
- Ask for introductions. Many people worry about the market, the economy and interest rates. Ask clients whether they know someone who has not heard from their advisor and could benefit from a conversation.
Everyone has down days. These simple actions can help turn a slow day into a productive one.
