10 reasons to use social media at conferences

You might be a networking superstar, but it can feel overwhelming to network when you’re by yourself at a conference with thousands of attendees. Using social media, however, during conferences and conventions can connect you to other people. Here’s why MDRT members use social media during the 2016 Annual Meeting.

  1. Build community. Keeping your posts up during #MDRT2016 allows you to enhance your online network.

  1. Meet new people. See a tweet from a like-minded attendee? Make a plan to meet for coffee before Main Platform.

  1. Interact with speakers. Did you find a specific speaker fascinating? Connect with them on social media. Social media allows for simple channels of communication that standard contact (such as email and phone calls) doesn’t.

  1. Snapchat. Need we say more? The social media giant is the hottest on the scene. Show your followers the amazing time you’re having in Vancouver.

  1. Learn. Don’t be intimidated if you think your social media skills aren’t up to par. Look for any person wearing a #MDRT2016 ribbon on their badge. They will be happy to help you post your photo to Instagram.

  1. Get a different view of the meeting. Hey, you’re only one person. As much as you may want to, you can’t see and do it all. It’s fascinating to see the meeting through the eyes of another attendee.

  1. Remain relevant. Although it may seem overwhelming to keep up your posts, showing you can multitask while learning proves you’re up-to-date.

  1. Share information. Looking for the most amazing restaurant in Vancouver? Chances are someone has been there and tweeted about it using our hashtag.

  1. Stand out. Social media gives you quick access to 10,000 meeting attendees, as well as members following from home.

  1. Have fun. Social media is a business space, but it’s also a fun space. Sprinkle your posts with a little personality, and don’t forget to have fun doing it.
