Ensuring that your CRM is saving time, not costing it

When your business is in a growth phase, it’s really important to tighten up the process. In my business, it’s just me currently. I’m not at a space where I have staff within the office, so hours sitting in front of a CRM or plugging data into electronics really can work against what I’m trying to do in the long run.

I know how effective technology can be because I’ve been in technology for about 20 years before I came into this role. As I see myself with a staff person in the future, technology is going to be very important, but it’s because I’m going to allow them to do the data entry while I’m still out doing the things that help the mechanics of the business work properly.

When I started with New York Life, I was actually a technology deskside support agent, helping the agents. I remember a brand-new agent who came in and spent hours and hours and hours talking about the CRM. I looked at him and said, “You’ve been here six months. You’d be better served just trying to find new clients and stop beating the CRM to pieces.” Get to a place where you have a staff person, and then you’ve got to tighten up the business up so you can make it more efficient.

I’m pretty sure they didn’t mention any specific CRMs to avoid any conflict of interest. Imagine they talk about some, how would those not being mentioned feel. Left out!

Just as no MDRT conference they never mention any specific of the insurance companies.

  • Your point is well taken, but you give no mention or recommendations as to which CRM(s) you mostly have worked with and recommend.
As an It expert, you should be well versed in and have plenty of experience with the different CRMs available and the one(s) that you have found
to be useful to Life agents starting their careers, as well as Financial Advisers. I would really appreciate your guidance and thoughts on this.
