Are you happy? No matter how you answer, this question is important too: Are you taking steps to actively choose to be happy?
In his 2015 Annual Meeting presentation, speaker and author Shawn Achor said that happiness is a choice, “and it’s a choice that can be influenced.” He suggested three habits you can adopt to increase your happiness:
- Think of three new things you’re grateful for every day. This 45-second investment in your life can supersede genes and decades of experience, Achor said.
- Do 15 minutes of cardio every day. The effects of cardio can be as effective as taking an antidepressant, he said.
- Write a two-minute email praising or thanking a person you know. “If you do this for three days in a row, you’ll become addicted to it,” Achor said. “This increases your social connections, and social connections are the greatest predictor of success.”
This is the first time anyone has suggested doing a thank you or praise e-mail. This is such a great idea…….. I am going to try now! Thank you for sharing your ideas with us.
