MDRT kicks off the 2016 Annual Meeting with style

It’s no surprise that when more than 10,000 people from all over the world converge on Vancouver for the same reason, they’re going to get a worthy welcome.

At Sunday’s opening ceremonies for the 2016 MDRT Annual Meeting, attendees were treated to a show providing a remarkably wide variety of entertainment. That included (to name just a few) Bella Electric Strings, a Las Vegas-based, all-female group adapting songs like Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” and AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” “Highway to Hell” and “You Shook Me All Night Long” to electric string instruments; “Boogie Fever,” a theatrically driven dance group inspired by ’70s songs like K.C. and the Sunshine Band’s “Boogie Shoes” and the Village People’s “Macho Man”; the Vancouver-based percussion ensemble Scrap Arts Music; and the Craig Lewis Band, previously seen on Season 10 of “America’s Got Talent.”

Early in the event was the Flag Ceremony, in which MDRT members from each represented country walked proudly on stage holding their nation’s flag. (Countries were introduced in ascending order of membership, ranging from Botswana to the United States.) MDRT President Brian Heckert, CLU, ChFC, also reflected on how the organization’s first meeting in 1927 had only 32 members, while this year’s meeting has more than 10,000 attending. He also welcomed his four children on stage to talk about the caring, passion, excellence and impact of MDRT and the biggest event of the year.

With that, the 2016 Annual Meeting is officially in progress!
